...without leaving the house

The wind hadn't got us, when I was asked to help Dad, foot the ladder, a set of triples. As much as able, I'd rushed to help him, knowing full well that if I'd delayed at all, he would do the job without me.
The tree was large and annoying to Dad, creating a determination in him, I do not like to see. His obsessions can irritate me, at times.
We had worked together for about an hour, with Dad cutting away at the tree, which also supported the ladder he stood on.
The next day as I made his bed I looked out the window and was shocked to see how high he had cut. Ninety-one he may be, but when he chooses to do something, he'll do it.
So it was, I was not surprised to find him in the back garden with his long ladders, as I had been stuck in the bathroom. Much as he has before, he had chosen to do his job, without my help or intervention.
He can be proper sneaky, at times. Anyway...
I lay hearing the phone at about seven and figure, “It's Karl, to say don't call too early 'coz he'd be picking up Laurie, or something like that...” But, I just couldn't rise.
My knees and hips had needed rest, after feeling frail, having a flu jab and eaten. I ate half an egg; half a potato-cake; half a salmon fish-cake; a portion of pasta and barley and broccoli in a cheese
sauce and a portion of carrot and swede.
In truth, I had intended to call next Tuesday Karl.
[I had intended to try and eat solids this week, but feeling 'frail' as my cousin Lesley says of me, I felt it should be today.]
When Ian had his two toes removed then ended up in intensive care, I'd been phoned as I am his 'next of kin'. Then he went to New Zealand and lost more of his foot, yet returned to work.
And then, a doctor rang almost a week ago from New Zealand, telling me due to pneumonia they'd had to induce a coma and, as
I was next of kin... Then this Tuesday afternoon he rang, to say he was out of hospital and at home and, after being in a coma for ten days, he sounded pretty happy about it.
Then Storm Ali found us, causing all sorts of disruption for many and on the Thursday, distinct annoyance for me. My friend Mike lives in Elton which meant that he had encountered the traffic-jam between Chester and Hooton. That led to an annoying audio-text message, telling me what had happened.
Just imagine Michael Madsen 'singing' gimmee some lovin, with two naked pole-dancers, inna rock n roll fable, with blood and gore, such was 'Elorado' 2001
It also had Daryl Hannah and that Kwai Chang Caine fella... and The Jews Bros. I'd enjoyed it's... erm, "novelty".
And, talking of watching things. I had realized that the Monday would bring the dentist and the Tuesday was Dad's shopping, I'd chilled out Sunday, acquiring to watch, several episodes of a Batman related cartoon 'Brave and the Bold'. Each one I obtained had a story with both Batman and another, often a character I recalled well from my old comic-book reading days... 'twas a pleasant evening doing so.
I should stop dusting, completely... forever. This week two more Doctor's made a suicide bid from their shelf, as I used my pink fluffy duster.
The mention of Portmeirion and a photo of my old yellow jacket had brought forth a plethora of memories, some good and some bad. I'd enjoyed my day at Portmeirion. Debbies Dad had said to me, “Think
of anywhere within reasonable driving distance and I'll take you both.”
So, we'd gone there all together, a family trip, driven by a man who I hate still, to this day.
“Treat her like I would,” he had said to me the day he'd arrived at our new home, with an armful of pots and pans. An event I wrote of, after learning he had abused her as a child.
'Portmeirion itself had been everything I had wanted of it, being a fan of the television show, 'The Prisoner' and, as Debbie and I had wandered round the place, she is a red zip-up short jacket and me in my yellow one, we'd been so in love, which is evident in the photo's I saw after reading the email.
I went to the doctors, the other day, 'just' to talk of me and, I'm still thankful my doctor lets me as her as I do, when I do, 'coz it is true – talking does help. But from my point of view, having learned
of counselling from both sides, the person listening has to want to listen. She does.
Talking of 'the other day', I got a card, with a spring bunny on it and inside had been a message from 'Scottish Susi', as I used to call her. I had known her on the soup kitchen had I worked on and tried to establish a reasonable friendship with her.
It was never to be, like others I have known, she had been a consummate gamer. The card I had got had been a apology, for treating me badly, almost thirty years ago. I'd taken the card to show my doctor, simply 'coz it had me somewhat rattled.
In truth, I still cannot imagine why she wrote, as she had, now.

Making my coffee awhile ago, I heard Gerry Marsden and 'Ferry Cross The Mersey'. I smiled. At about 2:00 a.m. that fellow can get real ratty.
I'd been part of a film 'The Tree of Death', that I believe is still in post-production hell, shot in a wood and in the grounds of a girl-guides headquarters, in Willaston, a few miles from where I live.
It was had been an interesting couple of weeks and, on the last day we'd had a party, that went on into the early hours of the morning. Then the phone had rung – a very ratty Gerry Marsden.
Anyway...
There's a sequence in 'Jason X' where the android tilts her head, just after a satisfactory shot against the titular anti-hero and, I've just seen an android do a similar head tilt, in 'Alien Expedition 2018'
The film captures the feel of the scifi space flicks of the eighties in a similar manner to way that 'Turbo Kid 2015' recreated 'the feel' of those films, which I still view; yet these two films also have enough blood and gore, to satisfy someone like me, who revels in good films.
And, I'll concede that I can't help but smile, as soon as I hear that driving eighties soundtrack, as employed in both films.

“I'll take Box B”

So after encountering ebay again, I'd found myself eagerly awaiting the two Doctor's arrival, after watching them both attempt suicide from the shelf, upon watching me dust.
Then on Friday, a small parcel arrived, having been shoved through the letterbox, addressed to my friend, who had helped me acquire what I wanted through ebay. It had been one of the grey plastic
envelope bags, with bubble-wrap inside, wrapped round a small figure.
I'd ever so-carefully cut open the envelope and then the packing, so as not to damage what would be inside: and then I'd laughed.
David Tenant was broken at the ankles, just as he had been after falling off my shelf, in his suicidal bid and, all I could do was continue to laugh, wondering whether it was true, was as good as nails, as hood a glue as I'd been led to believe.
Then on Saturday my friends name was on a large box that arrived. Hoping it was Tom Baker and without a chip in his hat, I'd made a coffee after doing some weeding, so as to build up the surprise, whatever it might be.
Eventually I'd not been able to wait any longer, so got the box from the lounge and cut away at tape, finding inside the Doctor Who Figurine magazine number 17, with Tom Baker affixed to the front in his perspex-fronted box.

I'd unwrapped the box and was delighted to find no chip in the hat and strangely it also had a better painted face and scarf, than mine, that had taken a dive from the shelf.

Truly I'd been more pleased with Box B, from ebay indeed.

* * *

Then after months of emailing and a lot of suggestions, I got an email on Saturday from dw-figurines saying, they probably will put out the companions... through the website.
My response had been, 'is there provision for those like me, who don't like internet shopping.' There had been no response...
Well, people talk of choosin your friends and not your kin. Well bein my brother next-of-kin means that sometimes I can more adventure than I want, without leaving the house.
The first occasion that got to me was a call from my brother's psychotic ex son-in-law, telling me his was in intensive care after the removal of two toes.
Well, he recovered...
Then months passed and, one evening I'd received a call from a doctor in New Zealand, telling me Ian was in an induced coma after coming close to death, having fluid on his lungs.
And then...
I got a call from someone looking for a Mr Valey, who has previously used my address, to illegally obtain a car. This time, for a second time, he had used collection boxes to illegally obtain money, using our address.

To say one can have adventures without leaving the house therefore, is an unnecessary statement of fact, in my opinion.
